Victoria Steam Expo

May was a very busy month for steampunk events

Steampunk University

Anachrocon

Steampunk World’s Fair

Victoria Steam Expo

World Steam Expo

Aside from Steampunk University in Seattle, I only made it to the Victoria Steam Expo in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.  Organized and produced by Jordan and Zandra Stratford, the event focused on authors and artists, not only speakers and performers such as Cherie Priest and Erica Mulkey, but also in vendors like Ian Fitch-Field, Professor Whovianart, and Thin Gypsy Thief.

Victoria is a great place to visit, and the Empress Hotel added great ambiance to the event. Even better were the new people I got to meet, especially those from Vancouver. I also got to meet people from the Steampunk Canada group.  Several neighbors from the Seattle Steamrats were also in attendance.

My friend, Nolan, put together a video using clips he took during the weekend.

James Ng Opens Online Store

Previously mentioned on this blog and in Jaymee Goh’s interview, James Ng has created some amazing Chinese steampunk artwork, and now it’s available for sale at his newly opened online store.

A set of the eight prints is $150, and includes the Imperial Airship, Immortal Empress and Court Band among others. Single prints are $25.

Limited edition poster sized prints are available by special request.

James says in the listings:

“The Chinese Steampunk series is a personal project where I try to merge Imperial Chinese designs and history with western steam works, the English Industrial Revolution and fantasy.”
