Greetings, everyone! Thank you for your continued visits and support!
November started off with the rousing success of the first Teslacon convention in Madison, WI. Reviews and numbers are still coming in, but among the first are here and here. Follow Teslacon at their website and Facebook.
The Airship Ambassador website continues to grow daily with news, events, local groups, resource links, and new books, music, and other media. There’s also a new steampunk Twitter feed on the home page. Please feel free to email us with information which should also be listed in any section.
Airship Ambassador is also on Facebook and Twitter. Join your fellow ambassadors today!
There are two new groups to share with you:
The Speculative Fiction Database – this was started to be a central listing of speculative fiction authors and their books. Matt Delman (Free the Princess blog, Twitter, Flying Pen Press) will be leading the effort to get steampunk authors added to the listings.
The Steampunk Writer’s Guild, created by author Lia Keyes, this is a new resource to support the growing community of steampunk story authors.
The next big news for November is that Steamcon in Seattle, WA, is just around the corner on Nov 19-21. While online registration is closed, tickets can still be bought at the door. Event ticket sales for the inaugural Steamcon Airship Awards, the two Teas, and the Saturday night concert are only available online until this weekend. Move quickly to get them before they are sold old!
If you are attending Steamcon, you’ll find an Airship Ambassador bookmark in your registration packet. I’ll be around all weekend, too, so please say “Hi”!
Starting Thursday night, Nov 18th, I will be helping with setup and plan on being in the lobby for the pre-convention ‘Lobbycon’ which is a great way to meet new people and ease into the weekend.
Friday, my convention activities start at noon with a panel about blogging, joined by Chris Garcia, of the Exhibition Hall ezine, and author Cherie Priest.
At 2pm, I will interview Caitlin Kittredge, author of the upcoming steampunk book, The Iron Thorn.
At 5pm, I’ll join other attendees at a banquet dinner for the Airship Awards, which is Steamcon’s recognition of achievement in the steampunk community. Get your tickets now for a great meal and the awards ceremony when we find out the winners for the written, aural, visual, community and general categories.
Saturday is the big day for me – six interviews with authors! (Schedule subject to change at the last minute)
10am, Jay Lake, author of Airship Award nominee Mainspring, Escapement and Pinion.
11am, Michelle Black, author of ‘steampunk adjacent’ The Second Glass of Absinthe.
1pm, Gail Carriger, New York Times Bestselling author of Airship Award nominee Soulless, Changeless, and Blameless.
5pm, Cherie Priest, author of Airship Award nominee Boneshaker, Clementine and Dreadnought.
7pm, MK Hobson, author of The Native Star
8pm,Jillian Venters, author of Gothic Charm School: An Essential Guide for Goths and Those Who Love Them
Whew! Then it’s time to unwind at the Saturday night concert featuring Bakelite 78, Ghoultown, and Abney Park.
Sunday is a little quieter, at least for me.
1pm, interview with Nick Valentino, author of Thomas Riley.
While you are at Steamcon, take a moment to browse the Art Show, where artwork by James Ng will be on display. James won’t be there in person this year as he’s in Hong Kong for several months, but our interview with him can be read here.
Also at Steamcon, get pre-registered for Steamcon III – 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, October 14-16, 2011.
