Steampunk Hands Around the World 2017

Steampunk: Making Life Better

Steampunk Hands Around the World returns for it’s fourth year, continuing the celebration of the best that the global steampunk community has to offer.

The 2017 theme of the annual month long blogathon is “Making Life Better”. Each day from Wednesday, February 1st through Tuesday the 28th, contributors will share some of their favorite experiences of how steampunk made a difference.

Everyone, steampunks and non-steampunks alike, will be able to share in the information about who and what inspires us to keep exploring, expanding, and enhancing our community every day.

Tying all of these experiences together are people. People who share their ideas, who teach their skills, who step forward to make a difference in large ways and small. Each and every one of us has probably already made life better for someone and some time, and we may not even know it. Together, we create our community, and we bring steampunk to life, in all of its many variations. WE make a difference.

Steampunk Hands Around the World is just one of many opportunities during the year which brings people together, creating new connections and friendships. It is one of those events where we see into the whole of the community, and bring home those things and people who inspire us to do more and be more.

Each day, the master list of blog links will be updated at the Airship Ambassador blog site. Follow along on Twitter with the hashtags of #SteampunkHands and #SHaW , and on the official Facebook event page.

As many different languages are spoken around the world, it will be helpful to use a translation service to read each post in your own native language, such as Google. Language will not be a barrier in communication among us.

If you would like to participate directly, or would like more information, please contact Kevin Steil at Kevin@AirshipAmbassador.com

Press Release – Steampunk Goes 360!

Start-up to Crowdfund a 360° eBook Revolution

London, UK: TurlBook® is a brand new eBook format. It is reinventing storytelling with moving interactive illustrations in 360°. You step in, and then you can look around in the story – making the idea of a magic book a reality. You can move as you wish, and expand your imagination as you go. Adults will discover new worlds. Children will fall in love with reading. You can already preview magical working demonstrations and add your pre-campaign support at www.turlbook.com/360steampunk . With hundreds of early fans, the crowdfunding (Kickstarter/Indiegogo) starts when it has a little more early support (expected early 2017).

Imagine your favorite book coming to life: a 360° fantasy world of dragons; or shadows in your favorite thriller. Travel back to ancient Egypt, or visit Juliet at the balcony whilst standing at Romeo’s side. As pictures start moving you can step in to a magic book. Three spins on adult classics will come first, and sights are on expansion into children’s entertainment and all-age education.

“It’s a new technology concept, sure. But the idea probably goes back to the early days of printing. There’s something ancient in it. Humanity has a dream of stepping into the world of a book. But it’s not just kids who have this dream. It’s what we do when we read. Detective stories, thrillers – they could all have this exciting treatment. A Texas-based reading campaign for kids wants to work with us already. But a new way of telling stories is bigger than one age group. To prove the point we’ve chosen a grown up classic as our first book. ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ was begging for 360°. Steampunk-style treatment should be on-topic too. With enough support we’ll follow this with a new story for Alice in Wonderland, and an adventure set in India.” (Istvan Prem, Founder.)

Turl Book is the brainchild of Ishti (Istvan Prem) – an award-winning Hungarian artist living in the UK. For his art degree he experimented with interactive 360° film installations. 360° panoramic video gained in support from major device brands 2016, making his interactive eBooks possible. To ride that wave, the 360° animated concept was prepared more than a year ago – without device support. Ishti has been at the forefront of format development. He now has a small group of artists to help.

Founded 2016, Turl Book Limited is a technology and publishing start-up. TurlBook®, their singular eBook format, has illustrations you click or tap to transform into rich embedded interactive 360° animated scenes.
