Silver Phoenix Society announces its Acquisition of Steampunk World’s Fair

The Silver Phoenix Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to “Events, Entertainment, & Education By Geeks For Geeks”, has acquired the rights and management of the World’s Largest Steampunk Event, The Steampunk World’s Fair.

 

On March 13th, SPS announced the end of their involvement in SPWF in May, but were creating a new event in the fall called Silver Clockwork Exposition and
Symposium  (see Part One)

On March 14th, the SPWF Facebok page, apparently still being operated by SPS, announced the smaller event, End of the World Fair, for May 4-6 (see Part Two)

On March 14th, the SPWF website, also apparently still being operated by SPS, announced “… we have found someone who has stepped forward to run a smaller-scale event on those days…”, which would be the End of the World Fair, for May 4-6, although that ‘someone’ was never specifically named (see Part Two)

On March 14-15, a note was sent to vendors regarding both events, and associated fees. (see Part Three)

The Radisson Hotel posted a note about cancelling hotel rooms:

 

 

The SPWF website still shows the March 14th announcement

 

Which says, in part

“There will be a smaller-scale event held on May 4 – 6, 2018”

This afternoon, an announcement was posted on the SPWF Facebook page:

The corrected email address would be – questions@silverphoenixsociety.org

 

A similar post was made on the Silver Phoenix Society Facebook page

Within the comments for that post, is this:

 

It could be a case of bad timing, people’s unavailability, and poor communication skills and wording, resulting in significant misunderstanding, misinterpretation, and/or misleading content, but the gist is:

The official SPWF website says there is an event happening on May 4-6, 2018, and to contact questions@silverphoenixsociety.org, which is the Silver Phoenix Society.

The official Facebook page for SPWF says that the Silver Phoenix Society is not involved in the event on May 4-6, but still contact questions@silverphoenixsociety.org.

And then, that the person who would have run the smaller May 4-6 event is no longer available, implying that unless someone else steps up, then there won’t be an event since there is no one to run it. Even if there is an event, the hotels will only work with Jeff Mach.

 

Today’s summary:

People can still cancel their hotel rooms at the Radisson, per the Raddison Facebook post.

SPS says they aren’t involved with any smaller event, if one happens, on May 4-6.

The alleged person who was to run the smaller May event is now not available, calling into question the viability, and veracity, of a May event.

 

What’s really needed now is a single, joint statement from SPWF, SPS, and any other parties which have been involved in any way so far, signed by named responsible decision makers and people in authority, with clear explanations and directives about what is and is not happening, and what are the redress options are for  people who have paid for tickets.
