For the last four years or so, there are 30-40 steampunk conventions being held each year around the world. One of the more creative ideas has been EuroSteamcon – a same weekend, multi-location event in Eastern Europe.
Over the years, simultaneous gatherings have happened in Austria, France, Germany, Spain, and half a dozen other countries. Even though I live several thousand miles away, I was still able to participate via some convenient technology, with instant messaging and webcams.
During and after the weekend, it was great to see the pictures that people posted. So much creativity and happiness in each one. Outfits reflecting individuality and the influences of their regions and cultures.
If there becomes a way for me to get there, this is a convention I want to attend, in as many locations as possible. Every year, the impression I am left with is that the Spaniards hold the best parties and the Italians have the best outfits. I probably should make sure in person, though 🙂
If you are interested in traveling a little, and would like to see steampunks in several countries, this might be the next convention on your list.
Follow along each day as new entries are added to the Official Link List and join the discussions on the Facebook event page.
